You take a nice photo on an iPhone, send it to someone, and they reply "I cannot open this." Or a website form refuses the upload with a useless error. Half the time the culprit is HEIC.
HEIC is fine on the phone. It saves space. The internet just never fully agreed to speak that language. JPG is still the boring format everyone accepts.
Convert it and move on
- Open Convert and pick JPG.
- Drop the HEIC file. ImageUtils will decode it even when the browser is vague about the file type.
- Download the JPG and send that instead.
- Keep the HEIC on your phone if you want the original. Make JPGs when something is picky.
Why this keeps happening
Apple made HEIC the default because it is efficient. Windows machines, older browsers, school sites, and a lot of email setups still shrug at it. The error messages are rarely honest. They say corrupt, unsupported, or nothing at all.
You can force the iPhone to shoot JPG in Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible. That works, but your camera roll gets heavier. I prefer keeping HEIC and converting only when a form or a friend needs JPG.
For chat and forms, a normal JPG is enough. If you might print the photo later, keep the HEIC as your master and do not keep re-saving the JPG over and over.
